In filmmaking, Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects added to films in post-production. They are created by the sound artist mimicking the actual sound source in a recording studio and can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. Audiences can participate in this special Foley presentation to learn how everyday items are used to enhance the auditory experience of the movie. This workshop will include taking a short film to pre-production where the audience will add sounds using items/props provided. Presented by Footsteps Post-Production Sound Inc.

Filmmaking is a far more complex than most people realize, and it involves not only what the producers and director do but the efforts of many others. For a project to be completed on time and budget, the film industry relies on film cast and crews with a wide array of skills in the field of film and video production. At this event the audience will engage with industry professionals who work in these exciting, well-paying careers; visit displays of the filmmaking process; experience a behind-the-scenes look at the film and television industry; and learn about these exciting, well-paying careers such as cinematography, production sound, location scouting, costume design, hair and makeup, art department, acting/performing, gaffer and electrical, props creation and visual effects (FX).

Not Here, Not There

Not Here, Not There is a mixed-medium experimental narrative film that consists of a stage play, with a screen playing premade visuals that the talent on stage interacts with. The process involved shooting the visuals to be projected on a screen, creating a stage play from those visuals, and recording the play in multi-cam in front of a live audience. The end product is a piece centered around self-identity and how one perceives their own identity to oneself and to others.

Tiger Mom

TIGER MOM follows Kevin, a high school senior stuck in a strained, mutually-misunderstood relationship with his Asian immigrant mother. Initially caught between his feelings of obligation to her and his own desire for independence, he ultimately decides to rebel and sneak out after his love interest invites him to a party. However, his night of rebellion doesn't pan out the way he hoped.

Broke and misguided, 24-year-old BILAL is tired of working hard jobs for little pay. Like many young men, he dreams of a life of luxury and feels that the only way he can attain it is by selling drugs. Frustrated with his rebellious nature, Bilal’s mother sends him packing back to Toronto to live with his estranged uncle MUSTAFA, who tries to put him on the straight and narrow. Sadly, the allure of fast money never escapes him and Bilal gets caught up with PURPLE, a Muslim gang leader who tries to sway him from the street life. Bilal instead chooses to go into the drug business on his own under the mentorship of Purple’s nemesis DUTCH. A dose of reality hits when Bilal is faced with the threat of death and he is forced to choose between continuing his life of crime or turning things around, before it’s too late.

The original Biltmore Theatre was built in 1940 and had its first feature film in April of 1941.

There were originally 5 film theatres in Ontario under the Biltmore name. Most facilities have been torn down, the Biltmore in Oshawa is the only facility still used for entertainment today.
